Job Description

Plant Environmental Specialist

Job Summary: Provide technical functions to achieve, maintain and document compliance with environmental regulatory requirements. Ensure that all related work is completed in compliance with Company, State, and Federal regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages the operation of the facility's Wastewater Treatment System.
  • Manages the disposal of Universal waste, as well as hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials.
  • Conducts weekly inspections of the facility, documents findings, arranges for and monitors progress of clean-up/remediation of problem areas.
  • Conducts training for other employees regarding waste handling, chemical hazards, pollution prevention, waste minimization, etc.
  • Observes all safety rules and practices good housekeeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to be decisive and apply sound and reasonable judgement under pressure.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with proven ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent computer skills required.

Education and Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or similar in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • 4-year degree in Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Environmental, Health and Safety or similar required.
